When does registration for the 2008 Edwin A. Keach Memorial Wiffle® Ball Tournament open?
As soon as you see the Registration Form posted on this website, you can sign your team up (May). This year, the FINAL day to register online is July 25 or if you register via snail mail, registration must be postmarked July 22. We need to stick to this deadline because we plan to have the first round play brackets posted the week before the tournament so you’ll be able to see what and who you’re up against.
How many games does my team get to play?
Each team is guaranteed three games and, depending on performance in the round robin division play, has the opportunity to move onto the single elimination tournament that will immediately follow.
What is the Home Run Derby and Bud Leach Award?
If you can hit them hard and far, take a chance to become the Bud Leach Award recipient this year. Rules: 10 outs per batter. Any swing that does not result in a home run is an out. The batter can select the pitcher of his/her choice. And, the batter can enter as many times as he/she would like. Registration for the derby will be made available at the scorer’s table on the day of the tournament. Mike Heenan is the reigning 2007 Champion.
How many players can each team have?
Not more than five. We did have a one-man team performance two years ago. Although he finished respectably, he left his pitching arm on the field.
When is the player check-in?
Tournament check-in will be held at Militia Park on August 2, game day. The registration tables (God willing) will be ready for you at 7:30 am.
What do we do once we arrive at Militia Park on tournament day?
Do not pass GO. Go directly to the Scorer’s Table. You’ll see a line of Tournament Volunteers sitting at the Scorer’s Table waiting for you. Once there, you will hand in your waiver (no signed waiver, no play). Then you will receive your team handbook, tournament sanctioned bats and balls, and tournament t-shirt. Lastly, you will head to the tournament photographer for your team mug shot.
One of my teammates likes to cheat. What should I do?
Remind this wretched creature that cheats and pirates are not tolerated at this tournament. Once discovered, they will be stripped of all tournament regalia and publicly humiliated.
What do I get if I win the tournament?
A cash prize (denomination will be determined closer to the tournament), a well earned trophy, and your name forever engraved on the Plaque of Champions proudly displayed at Maguire’s Bar and Grill in Easton.
What happens if it rains?
We are working on a rain date. See the refund section.
With the heat of the summer, how will I stay cool?
Know this... you will be playing (or watching) Wiffle® Ball in Easton, in an open field, on a sunny day in August. You will probably be sitting in direct sun. It will probably be hot. Do what you need to do to be prepared. We’ll have water and shade tents located near the snack bar. Additionally, the snack bar will have Gatorade, soda, popsicles, hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. You are welcome to bring lawn chairs, umbrellas, sunscreen, bag o’ ice, or anything else you deem necessary.
Can spectators come out to watch the tournament?
Absolutely! The WTF contingent registered FIVE teams last year. And, they had full family/friend participation spectators and players alike. It was amazing! Militia Park is free and open to the public. In addition to competitive Wiffle® Ball action in a beautiful park, the snack bar will be open with food, drinks, and tournament merchandise. Please, bring your peeps to enjoy the day!
How do I get to the E.A.K. Wiffle Ball® Tournament?
Please check out the directions and parking page.
Where can I park?
We have been warned if people park in the Southeast Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center (property abuts the ball park) you will be towed. Don’t risk it. There is ample parking at Militia Park.
Where can I view tournament photos?
Go to the Event Photos section of the website. The link will direct you to Shutterfly.com. From there you can view and order photos of the event.
How can I train for this event?
Regardless of the incredible skill you were born with, you should begin your training program early. You should endure months of rigorous exercise and countless hours of practice to hone your natural born abilities. But even if you’re woefully unprepared, we’ll still let you play. The E.A.K. Wiffle® Ball Tournament welcomes those of all ages and skill levels. Whether you’re new to the game or a seasoned backyard baller, a competitive spirit is all you’ll need to face the pack. Remember, you won't be running bases!
What do I need to bring?
Everything your team will actually need to play will be provided to you as soon as you register at the Scorer's Table. Only tournament-issued balls and bats will be allowed during tournament play.
Why do you ask for a team description?
Once the tournament play brackets are posted online, you will be able to click on each Team Name to see their self-written team description. Please note self-written.
